EMILEE TOMINOVICH SIGNED TO FULL-SEASON TCA EFFORT

Multiple-time PWC champions Compass Racing launch 2015 TCA Honda Program

TORONTO, CA —Compass Racing will return for its fifth consecutive season in the Pirelli World Challenge in 2015, and released details of the team’s first driver signing for its expanded PWC Touring Car program. After four years in the TC class, the team will update its winning Honda Civic Si’s to fit new regulations which move the Honda platform to TCA. Emilee Tominovich has been signed to drive the team’s No.72 Children’s Tumor Foundation car.

“We’ve been keeping our eye on Emilee for a few years now, when she competed in MX-5 Cup,” noted Compass Racing Team Principal Karl Thomson. “I had first-hand experience racing against her a few times last season in PWC, and she impressed me. She’s got a lot of raw talent, and we feel she’ll be a good addition to our driver roster in World Challenge.”

Tominovich is equally enthusiastic. “I’ve done a few races here and there in PWC, but now that I’ve finished school and got my Nursing degree I’m able to concentrate on racing full-time,” remarked Tominovich. “I’m excited to join a winning team like Compass and to have the opportunity to go for a championship.”

Emilee competed in five of the 14 PWC TC races in 2014, and finished an impressive sixth in the year’s Driver’s Championship. She was the youngest member of TrueCar’s “Women Empowered” racing program in 2013 and 2012, which featured female drivers competing in a variety of top-level motorsports in North America. Tominovich was their recruit for the highly-competitive MX-5 Cup series and as a result of her success there was invited to represent the United States at the FIA Women in Motorsports Scirocco Cup event at Oschersleben, Germany. She is an instructor at New Jersey Motosports Park and Monticello, and will be one of the Children’s Tumor Foundation team drivers in 2015.

The move to TCA is part of a plan by both the PWC and Honda Performance Development to have the Civic Si compete in one single class, compared to having different specifications for TC and TCA. “It made sense for us that the Civic run in just one class, as it allows HPD to combine the prize money that was previously separate,” explained Thomson. “This coming year, the Honda contingency fund is very generous, and with the Touring Car weekends being triple-headers, our drivers have the potential to win good prize money.”

“We really like the direction that the folks at WC Vision are going with this series, and that includes their vision for the Touring Car classes,” said Compass Racing Technical Director Ray Lee. “It’s a cost-effective entry into pro racing, with good competition at some really great events. With the cost of racing increasing year on year, it’s important that drivers have a place they can move up to from club racing.”

The team plans to run up to four Hondas in TCA-class, and expects to announce additional drivers in the coming weeks. Testing is planned for early February in advance of the season-opening rounds at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas on March 6-8.
