RONDET SUBS FOR HOLTON AT LAGUNA SECA WHILST TCR BATTLE RAGES ON

Compass Racing looks to build on recent McLaren GS success and secure a championship with TCR Audis

MONTEREY, CA — With McLaren Driver Paul Holton having been called to China by the Factory, Compass Racing has tapped Nico Rondet to fill his shoes for the penultimate round of the IMSA Continental Tire Sportscar Challenge at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca this weekend. He’ll co-drive the No. 76 GS-class Rubrik / Pure Storage / Microsoft / McLaren / Pfaff Automotive / Race Day Foundation 570S GT4 with Matt Plumb.

Rondet is no stranger to the team, having most recently contested the championship last year in the squad’s No. 77 McLaren, finishing in third place with co-driver Mathew Keegan. “I’m really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of a Compass McLaren,” enthused Rondet. “I’m confident that Matt and I can get a good result!”

Holton, who has secured two GS-class pole positions this season, will be competing at Shanghai in the China GT series with David McIntyre, who currently leads the series’ standings. “After doing a lot of testing work on the GT4 and GT3 platforms in Europe over the past few months, I’m excited for the opportunity to race with Winning Team and David in their 570S,” remarked Holton. After two successful customer events at Long Beach and Portland, team sponsor Rubrik has extended its support to the team for Laguna Seca. “We’re pleased to be back with Compass for another west coast event at such a wonderful track with our partners from Pure Storage and Microsoft,” noted Rubrik’s Andrew Novich. “These race events are something really different and exciting that our customers are really enjoying, with the opportunity to get close to the action."

On the TCR side of the team’s garage, the fierce championship battle continues, with all three of the team’s cars and drivers in contention for the title. Rodrigo Sales and Kuno Wittmer in the No. 74 Pfaff Automotive / Audi Sport / Race Day Foundation Audi RS 3 LMS hold a narrow 4-point lead over Britt Casey Jr. and Tom Long in the No. 77 TRUMPF / Cushman Wakefield / Oscar Mike / Race Day Foundation Audi. This No. 75 APR LLC / AlphaClone / Brooklyn Tailors / Race Day Foundation Audi of Roy Block and Pierre Kleinubing (who won this event last year) is also within striking distance.“It’s going to be a great fight to the championship in these last two rounds,” said Team Principal Karl Thomson. “Our crew and drivers are giving their all, pushing to win the inaugural IMSA TCR championship."

The race, which starts at 3:15pm PDT on Saturday September 8th will be streamed live on IMSA.com with tape-delayed coverage on FOX Sports.
