MCMURRY AND DI MEO WIN IN VIRGINIA

Duo brings Compass Racing their first GT3 win in dramatic fashion

Danville, VI – Matt McMurry and Michael Di Meo brought Compass Racing’s No. 77 Richard Mille Acura NSX GT3 Evo across the line in first place to deliver the team’s first top-step result in GT World Challenge America competition.

Di Meo, once again subbing for Rodrigo Sales – who had a conflict with his European Le Mans program – was pushing hard in Saturday’s race, hunting down the first place Porsche, but put a wheel off at Oak Tree and nudged the tire wall. He quickly brought it back to the pit and the crew affected repairs in short order, but was too far behind to put up a fight back to the front. McMurry crossed the line in eighth place. For Sunday’s feature race, McMurry started the race from his qualifying position of sixth-in-class, handing the car to Di Meo at the 48-minute mark. From there, Di Meo made his was through the field, and took the lead with a daring move on Fred Poordad’s Porsche. The two battled until the end of the race, with Di Meo crossing the line just 2.9 seconds ahead of his rival, winning the Pro-Am class and finishing an impressive third overall.“What a huge day for our team,” enthused Team Owner Jill Beck. “We made big changes to our programs and crew in the off-season, and this result is proof-positive that the work has paid off!”

McMurry was equally effusive. “With Rodrigo unable to join us for VIR, I’m so pleased that the team was able to sign Michael as his replacement. The two of us have really hit it off, and I am so excited to have taken our first win of the season here.”
